People's Choice Awards...Snoozefest

The People's Choice awards happened last night and since most of my regularly scheduled programs are on hiatus, I watched it.  This is probably the least entertaining awards show ever, and here's why.

We'll start off with the network it is broadcast on: CBS.  Because it is on CBS, the entire show has CBS show stars giving out the awards.  Like LL Cool J, who still thinks he's somehow relevant, even though he piqued with "Mama Said Knock You Out" like 20 years ago.  Rachel Leigh Cook??  She hasn't really been famous since She's All That, despite the fact that she's on a CBS show. Linda Hunt from NCIS, yep I totally know who she is. Chris O'Donnell?? Please. Jason O'Mara, no idea.

And poor, sweet Kaley Cuoco is the host.  It's not her first gig, she somehow got to host the Teen Choice awards last year too. And while I love her acting on her show and I love her smile and enthusiasm, I just don't think she has what it takes to host an award show.  For one, and this isn't her fault, but she did the Billy Crystal bit in the beginning of the program by inserting herself in all the famous movies.  Been done, and better.  Then, there was no big song and dance, it was just lets get right to the awards. She never comments on anyone winning anything, except to say, that was amazing.  Which I'm sure was typed on the teleprompter since that's where her eyes were the entire time.  The only time there was any improv on her part was when she messed up, laughed at herself and then just kept going.  Endearing perhaps?  Make a joke of it, move on.  Don't just keep reading???

Now, for the winners.  Firstly, if you want to know who is going to win a People's Choice awards and not watch the entire broadcast, all you have to do is scan the crowd.  The winners of the awards are all in the audience, yet none of their rivals are.  So, obviously the winners are told ahead of time that they've won, since they all show up, have a speech prepared, and there was no supreme surprise face on Taylor Swift when she won, so you should know something is up.

I would just like to know who the "People" are who decide these awards.  Cuz I'm sorry, but it seems like its the same people who vote for the MTV movie awards and the Teen Choice awards.  The winners are obviously chosen based on popularity, not on actual talent.  Adam Sandler won for Favorite comedic male.  Case in point.  Adam Sandler movies haven't been funny in years.  He constantly wins Razzies.  His last movies, That's my Boy and Jack and Jill were the biggest piece of cinematic garbage ever created.  But gosh darn it, the people love him!

Lea Michelle won for comedic actress.  Rachel Berry????  Umm, she's not funny.  Certainly not this season on Glee.  Mostly never though.  She was up against Jane Lynch, on her own show, whose sole purpose is comedic relief. She beat out Sophia Vergara, Zooey Deschanel, and the host herself Kaley Cuoco.  That had to sting....

Hunger Games won for everything.  Just everything. Guess Twilight's finally been replaced.  No sign of RPatz or KStew anywhere.  And good riddance.

I looked up past winners for the People's Choice Awards.  Dustin Hoffman, Barbara Streisand, John Wayne were winners. I find that hilarious.  First of all, the people who chose these winners, probably have no idea who any of those people are.  And secondly, they never would have been chosen today.  It just makes me sad how talent is not a part of voters decision, at all.

In summary, whoever these "People" are who chose these award, stick with the Kids Choice and Mtv Movie Awards. Let the grown ups decide on real award shows.
